An animal rescue centre has been flooded after heavy overnight rain, affecting about 70 stray dogs in their kennels.

Water poured into the North Clwyd Animal Rescue building in Trelogan, Flintshire.

The centre's car park was also left under water.

In other areas of Flintshire, there has been surface water flooding in Deeside, Mostyn, Buckley and Mold. A driver was helped from floodwater at Llanfynydd.

John Morris, of the North Clwyd Animal Rescue Centre said: "The car park is literally under water.

"It's coming through into the stray block. The dogs are standing on pallets."

Some dogs were moved to other kennels which were free of water, while others are being temporarily rehomed overnight.

Mr Morris said the centre had wooden pallets on site and they had been moved into kennels to keep the animals off the ground. He appealed for help from anyone in the local area with suitable pumps.

He added: "It's the second time we've been flooded this year."

It started raining at 17:00 BST on Sunday and by 08:00 BST on Monday the kennels were flooded.

Meanwhile, a driver was helped to safety after becoming stuck in floodwater at Llanfynydd, Caergwrle, Flintshire.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 09:40 BST.

The service attended several other incidents involving surface water, but no homes or buildings were seriously affected.
