Denbighshire council looks for land for 1,000 new homes

Villages earmarked for more homes include Bodfari, Llanarmon, Llanbedr DC, Dyserth and Cyffylliog

Denbighshire council has been told to find more land to build an additional 1,000 homes.

A government inspector gave the ruling after the authority submitted its local draft plan (LDP) to meet the county's predicted housing needs by 2021.

While land for 6,450 planned homes has been earmarked across the county the inspector wants more sites identified.

Now, the authority is considering further sites with plots for 240 homes set for Denbigh and 170 in St Asaph.

Villages earmarked for more homes include Bodfari, Llanarmon yn Ial, Llanbedr DC, and Cyffylliog as well as land for a potential 99 homes in Dyserth.

The LDP has already proved controversial with the authority earmarking land at Bodelwyddan for 2,000 new homes which was strongly opposed by residents.

The authority is asking residents' views on the additional sites suggested which includes over 100 new homes in Rhuddlan and a further 100 in Ruthin and Prestatyn.

It has also published more details about the consultation online.

The authority said: "The inspectors in their note of findings have indicated that currently the Denbighshire LDP is likely to under-provide for housing needs across the county by around 1,000 houses.

"The council has agreed that further work can be carried out to identify additional housing sites."
