A ceremony has been held to mark the re-naming of Flint Pavilion in honour of Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones.

The taekwondo champion was guest of honour as the re-modelled leisure centre was unveiled as the Jade Jones Pavilion Flint on Tuesday.

The centre includes a bowling alley and an indoor flat green bowling rink.

Flintshire council leader Aaron Shotton said: "Jade's fantastic achievement has been such a boost for the town of Flint and the wider Flintshire community."

"It's fitting that the county council should now re-name its recently re-modelled leisure centre in her home town of Flint in honour of that achievement.

"It will be a long lasting and well deserved accolade."

Peter Macfarlane, Flintshire cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and leisure, said it was an exciting time for Flint Pavilion.

"The ten pin bowling, indoor bowling and soft play area help us to ensure that our modern leisure facilities in Flintshire offer something for all age groups in the county, to increase people's opportunities to participate in all kinds of sporting activities."

Earlier in the day Jade Jones was given a civic award at a ceremony in Llandudno.
