Clwyd Estuary: Rhyl sewage spill beach warning lifted

Denbighshire council had put up signs warning people to stay out of the water

A warning has been lifted about sea water quality in the Clwyd Estuary at Rhyl following a major sewage spill.

The spill was caused by a burst sewerage pipework at an industrial estate in Kinmel Bay.

Denbighshire council is removing warning signs on beaches following monitoring of the sea water quality, and further tests are awaited on river water quality.

Environment Agency Wales officers have carried out monitoring and tests.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water completed the initial pipework repair on Saturday, and a further repair early on Tuesday.

Environment Agency Wales and Denbighshire council had warned about potential poor water quality of the river estuary and along the coastline and warning signs had been placed along the coast.
