Prisons Minister Jeremy Wright and Welsh Secretary David Jones met local businesses representatives

Prisons Minister Jeremy Wright and Welsh Secretary David Jones have visited the site of what will be the UK's biggest super-prison in Wrexham.

Plans for the £250m prison have received outline planning permission and it is due to open in 2017.

After visiting the site, on Wrexham's industrial estate, the ministers met local businesses hoping to benefit from the jail.

The companies are meeting construction firms bidding to build the prison.

Work is expected to start on the 2,100-inmate jail next summer.

A two-day event began on Tuesday, allowing local suppliers hoping to be involved with the new prison to meet construction firms bidding for the contract.

Among the trades represented at the supplier event are general builders, electricians, plasterers and people involved in security, waste management and printing.
