Pylons dropped as Wrexham Power revises £300m plan

New industrial estate plans follow consultations

Plans for a gas-fired power station in Wrexham are being scaled back after objectors raised concerns about the visual impact from overhead power lines and pylons.

Wrexham Power says its revised £300m project no longer requires additional overhead connections.

It will focus on providing energy to other firms surrounding its planned site at Wrexham Industrial Estate.

It intends to hold a public consultation on its new plans in May.

Action group, Wrexham Residents Against Power Scheme, was set up on the basis that the original £800m plans would lead to more pylons affecting surrounding villages

Wrexham Power says the revised plans follow previous consultations with interested groups.

If all goes to plan and permission is granted, the firm hopes construction can start in 2016 with the power station operational 2019.

Wrexham Power says it could create up to 800 construction jobs and 30 permanent posts.
