Water supplies are being restored to north Wales towns where schools and public buildings were closed due to a burst main.

Welsh Water said it was working as quickly as possible to restore supplies in Rhyl, Kinmel Bay and Abergele.

But bottled water will be given to residents as a contingency at 18:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Customers might experience low pressure and discoloured water when supplies return, the firm said.

Supplies were affected in the postcode areas LL18 and LL22 after a mains pipe burst at Kinmel Bay.

Four schools were shut in Rhyl while Denbighshire council also closed the town's theatre and library due to a lack of water supply.

Jim Grundy, Welsh Water's north east Wales distribution manager, said: "We immediately sent a team to the site and are now carrying out an emergency repair. This impacted on water supplies to customers in Rhyl, Kinmel Bay, Towyn and the Abergele areas and we apologise for any inconvenience.

"However, we can confirm that water supplies are now being restored across the affected areas. As this happens, customers may experience low pressure or discoloured water for a period of time.

"This is not unusual after this type of incident and it should clear within a short period of time."

"We would like to assure customers we are working as quickly as possible to restore supplies to normal," he added.
