Diggers appear to be levelling ground on site

Work has started to prepare the site of Britain's biggest prison, which is to be built in Wrexham.

Two diggers have begun preparatory works on the former Firestone site on Wrexham's Industrial Estate.

The £250m "super prison" - due for completion in 2017 - will hold up to 2,000 inmates.

It has received outline planning permission from Wrexham council, which is expected to vote on granting full permission later this year.

Local community councillor Ray Squire said the diggers had been seen levelling ground on the site.
