Flintshire council to consider large-scale energy sites

Flintshire council expects initial checks and planning to take up to 18 months

Sites for possible large-scale renewable energy developments are set to be looked at in north Wales.

Flintshire council's cabinet meet on Thursday and will consider approving £50,000 for sites to be looked into.

Suggestions include solar farms, hydro power, wind turbines and a biomass plant fuelled by burning woodchips.

For the latter, a report says it would be "sensible and appropriate to consider planting up suitable land to harvest in future years".

The council could choose to develop a site itself or enter into an agreement with a neighbouring authority.

The report says the council "has considerable land assets, ranging from council farms to landfill sites, parks and woodland, and a wide variety of other parcels of land.

"Many have potential, either to develop as energy schemes or contribute to developing a more sustainable and profitable future."
