Flintshire KK Fine Foods' £4.2m expansion brings 90 jobs

Supermarket demand for seasonal frozen meals is behind the firm's expansion

Ninety jobs are being created in Flintshire with a £4.2m food factory expansion.

KK Fine Foods, which currently employs 230 people on the Deeside Industrial Park, makes frozen ready meals for pubs and wholesalers.

Growing demand from supermarkets for supplies of frozen Christmas meals is behind the expansion.

The investment includes nearly £2m public funding in grants and loans from the Welsh government and Finance Wales.

'Success story'

Chief executive and founder Leyla Edwards said the firm was bringing forward its expansion plans due to the success of its seasonal products.

"This is our biggest investment in the business to date and enables us to take full advantage of the growing demand for our high-quality frozen foods," she said.

The expansion is backed by a grant of £720,000 from the Welsh government's Economic Growth Fund and a £1.2m loan from its investment arm Finance Wales.

Rhodri Evans, investment executive at Finance Wales, said KK Fine Foods was "a real north Wales success story" which had built "a strong reputation".

"This latest expansion will strengthen its position as a major UK frozen food manufacturer," he added.
