Prof Michael Scott is to stand down as Glyndwr University vice chancellor next year

The boss at Wrexham's Glyndwr University has announced he is to stand down next year.

Prof Michael Scott's announcement comes in the same week the university had its right to sponsor international students reinstated by the Home Office.

It was stopped from recruiting overseas students in June after an investigation into alleged visa fraud.

He said the lifting of the suspension had enabled him to give further consideration to his own position.

In a statement, he said: "Rumours can be put to rest permitting us to get on with the work of rebuilding and safeguarding the university for the benefit of students, stakeholders and the communities which we serve.

"Whilst I am not in a position presently to give any formal notice under the terms of my contract of employment I can advise that it is my current intention that subject to satisfactory arrangements I would like to relinquish my role as vice chancellor at some point during the next calendar year."

University chancellor Sir Jon Shortridge said: "The board of governors will continue to work closely with Professor Scott until he hands over the baton to a successor who will build on his outstanding achievements."
