A55 and A483 roadworks criticism

The A55 runs across north Wales between Chester and Holyhead

The timing of three sets of roadworks affecting travel on the A55 in north Wales has been criticised.

North Wales Conservative AM Antoinette Sandbach accused the Welsh government of a piecemeal approach to maintenance on the dual carriageway.

There are roadworks on sections through Flintshire and Conwy county with other Highways Agency work on the border with the A483 Wrexham bypass near Chester.

The government and agency said they were trying to minimise disruption.

Ms Sandbach said: "Motorists are driving along, they hit one lot of roadworks, they finally get through those, then they hit a second and then they hit a third."

The Highways Agency is spending £5.3m re-modelling the A55/A483 roundabout outside Chester, one of the busiest routes linking north Wales and England.

The work is due to be completed by March.

Regarding the separate work on the A55, the Welsh government said information was displayed on the Traffic Wales website and on road signs to allow motorists to plan their journeys.
