A community cinema that closed its doors in January looks set reopen this spring.

There was widespread anger and protests after the Scala in Prestatyn, Denbighshire, shut-up shop after funding problems.

Denbighshire and Prestatyn councils said on Thursday they had appointed Aurora Leisure as new leaseholders.

The company says it aims to have the cinema open by early April and the centre fully operational by mid-May.

The centre had re-opened after a £3.5m facelift in 2009.

Denbighshire councillor Huw Jones said Aurora Leisure had a "proven track record in turning around the fortunes of struggling community cinemas".
