Maternity service judicial review bid enters second day

Plans to downgrade maternity services would see the removal of a doctor-led unit

A legal bid to challenge plans to downgrade maternity services at a Denbighshire hospital has been adjourned.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board wants to alter the doctor-led maternity service at Glan Clwyd Hospital.

But the move is subject to an application by campaigners to seek leave for a judicial review at Mold County Court.

No date has been fixed for the case to resume.

Most of Friday morning's proceedings were taken up with discussions about what further evidence needed to be tabled and about future dates for the court.

The judge, Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, has not yet decided on whether or not to grant a judicial review, and still needs to hear submissions from the health board.

The health board had intended to make the changes to the maternity unit on 20 May but they cannot be implemented until the court has reached its judgement.
