Zack Davies denies trying to murder Dr Sarandev Bhambra

A court has been told the man accused of trying to murder a trainee dentist in an apparent race revenge attack had "thought about killing people".

Dr Sarandev Bhambra was set upon by 26-year-old Zack Davies with a hammer and machete in Tesco in Mold, Flintshire.

Mold Crown Court previously heard it was a revenge attack for the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby.

Mr Davies, of Mold, denies attempted murder but admits wounding with intent on 14 January.

The court was told that Mr Davies had "about 50" Facebook accounts where he called himself "Zack Ali" and that most of his accounts were taken down because he kept getting into arguments.

He also told police he occasionally fantasised about guns, but did not have any, and that he thought about killing people.

"General, just anybody in the street, you know, who looks at me funny," he told police in interview.

'It could have been a lot worse'

Mr Davies told police he remembered shouting "white power" during the attack, and that it "sort of came out automatically".

When asked if he knew what the likely outcome of hitting somebody with force with the machete was, he said: "It's going to cause damage yes, significant damage."

Asked why he told a shopper "we're under attack mate", he said: "The whole recent Jihadi violence."

Mr Davies said that killing his victim could have been a "distinct possibility" if it were not for the intervention of Pete Fuller,

Later he told police they could "maybe thank that Pete guy for saving a life, I don't know".

"It could've been a lot worse, yes," he said.

When asked what he could have gained from media reports of the attack, he said: "Infamy I guess."

Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were jailed for life in February 2014 for hacking Fusilier Rigby to death.

The trial continues.
