Permission to flatten the former Bersham colliery heap was extended for another five years

The owners of a former colliery tip in Wrexham have been given more time to remove millions of tonnes of waste.

Bersham Glenside received permission five years ago to flatten the former Bersham colliery heap despite concerns from some who wanted it retained as an important part of local history.

But the landscape has changed little since then, prompting concern the land reclamation project may never be fully realised.

The company has been asked to comment.

Permission was extended for another five years after a revised application, external was agreed by Wrexham councillors at a planning committee meeting on Monday.
