Wrexham council staff drink and drugs test approved

A proposal to test council staff for drink and drugs after whistleblowers reported alleged substance misuse at work has been given the go-ahead.
Wrexham council will initially only test those suspected of having an alcohol or drug problem, but after six months it could introduce random tests.
It said it intended to secure "a safe environment for all employees".
The move comes after a number of alcohol-related disciplinary cases and illegal substances were found on-site.
Before the meeting, councillor Bob Dutton, lead member for organisation, said the council would give "all reasonable assistance" to staff with drink or drug problems.
But he added: "Individuals testing positive must be aware that in having chosen to report for duty with substances in their system they are exposing themselves and others to an unacceptable level of risk."
