Queen's honours: Iceland founder knighted in birthday list

The founder of Flintshire-based Iceland frozen food chain has been knighted in the Queen's birthday honours list.

Malcolm Walker CBE, the chief executive and chairman of Iceland, is honoured for services to retailing, entrepreneurship and charity.

He founded Iceland in 1970 with a single small shop in Oswestry selling loose frozen food and the company now records annual income of £160m.

Rhyl rugby club chairman John Richard Greenwood is appointed on OBE.

The 75-year old, known as 'Dick', is a former England rugby international, father of England World Cup winner Will Greenwood and current Wales Rugby League board member.

He is also chairman of Rhyl and Prestatyn Panthers RLFC, developing the junior section, coaching at under 16, under 12 and under 10 levels.

"It's all the people I've played with and worked with over all these years who have acted as the enabling factor, which is a source of great joy and pride to me," said Mr Greenwood.

"It is a great team game, so I am above all a team player, and my debt is to all my team-mates who have supported me through the years."

Brenda Bryden and Joan Bellis receive British Empire Medals (BEM) for services to the community in Wrexham.

Mrs Bryden has volunteered for 35 years and has been chairwoman of Wrexham Hospital League of Friends since 2005.

She has been honoured for voluntary service to Wrexham Maelor Hospital and the community in Wrexham.

Jeremy Roberts, deputy head teacher of Rhyl High School, has also been given a BEM for services to education and the community in Rhyl.
