'No confidence' in Ysgol Goronwy Owen head teacher

Teachers at a primary school on Anglesey say they have no confidence in their head teacher, and are threatening strike action.

It follows a formal complaint by UCAC union members against the head of Ysgol Goronwy Owen in Benllech, Ann Hughes.

The complaint led to a report by school governors, but union members said they were not happy with the response.

Ms Hughes has been asked to comment. Anglesey council said it was working with the school on an action plan.

The teachers said they "will consider taking industrial action unless significant steps are taken in response to the declaration of no confidence".

Following their formal complaint, they said school governors commissioned a report which highlighted "basic failings in the head's ability to lead and manage the school".

UCAC's members said the governors decided to implement an action plan, but the teachers claim this is "entirely unacceptable to the teachers who believe that the situation at the school is irredeemable".

A spokesperson for Anglesey council said: "The council is aware of the difficult situation at Ysgol Gynradd Goronwy Owen and has been working with the school and its board of governors, chaired by Councillor Ieuan Williams, on developing an appropriate action plan.

"Today's announcement by UCAC makes it clear that further dialogue is necessary, and we will continue to try to reach an acceptable solution for all parties for the good of the school."
