'Lucky' Snowdonia hill walker escapes 50ft slip

A walker who fell 50ft (15m) down a rocky slab in Snowdonia had a lucky escape when he landed on a small ledge above a drop, say emergency services.

The 30-year-old from Worcester, who had been walking near Crib Goch with a woman on Saturday, suffered bruising to his back and pelvis.

He was flown to hospital in Bangor by an RAF rescue helicopter, and released.

"He's a very lucky man after such a fall," said Ian Henderson of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team.

Twenty members of the rescue team were involved in what was described as an "extensive, technical" rescue from a very inaccessible place on steep ground.

The operation, which began with a mobile telephone call from the walkers, ended just before dusk.
