Buyer found for Anglesey fish farm

A troubled Anglesey fish farm has been sold, securing 32 jobs, say administrators.

Selonda UK operated a high tech sea-bass farm at a site near Beaumaris on Anglesey.

Administrators, only appointed on Wednesday, said the new owners will trade as Anglesey Aquaculture Limited.

The previous business had received millions in pounds of grant aid from the Welsh government and EU.

Selonda UK was jointly owned by the Greek fish farming enterprise Selonda and a Saudi based business called Jazadco.

But problems emerged last month.

The administrators said the old company had faced "significant challenges" involving technology and production techniques and this led to the firm running into cash flow difficulties.

The fish farm was established on Anglesey in 2002 and produced 1,000 tonnes of sea bass annually.

"We are pleased to have secured a sale of the business that protects 32 jobs in north Wales and secures value for the creditors of Selonda (UK) Limited," said Roger Hale, joint administrator and director at PwC.

He added the sale "provides an opportunity for the further development and growth of the business".
