Snowdonia walker in shorts rescued with two others at Cnicht

Three walkers, one wearing shorts, have been rescued from a peak in Snowdonia in "atrocious weather", rescuers say.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team was called at 17:14 BST on Saturday after the walkers became lost near the summit of 689m (2,269ft) Cnicht.

The three walkers, in their 50s, were on holiday from Bedfordshire.

Rescuers said the group was inadequately equipped for the conditions with a lack of warm clothing, food and other provisions.

'Shivering'

A dozen volunteer members of the Aberglaslyn team took part in a search lasting more than five hours in "atrocious weather conditions with heavy rainfall and gusts".

"The group had set off from Croesor at 13:00 BST, and had successfully summited the peak but became lost on their descent," said a team member.

"The group located a shelter forming part of the Rhosydd Quarry, and decided to call for assistance.

"An attempt was made to talk them off the hill but, owing to the group shivering with cold, a callout was initiated to search for them."

The team spokesperson added that the walkers were "inadequately equipped for the conditions with a lack of warm clothing, food or further provisions".

"One member of the group wore a pair of shorts, which clearly were not a suitable choice of clothing given the forecasted weather conditions."
