Plans for a £12.4m school for children with special needs have been approved by Gwynedd council.

The new school, partly funded by the Welsh government, will relocate Ysgol Hafod Lon and Uned Aran to create a new site in Penrhyndeudraeth in 2016.

It will have room for 100 children, six beds for residential or short term care and will aim to provide equal opportunities for vulnerable children.

A consultation on the plans will now be held.

The proposals were agreed at a meeting on Tuesday.

The cabinet voted to start a consultation on the plans, with the hope that the new school will be ready for September 2016.
