Last training flight for Hawk T1s at RAF Valley on Anglesey

The last training flight of Hawk T1s at RAF Valley on Anglesey has taken place.

The older training jet planes are being phased out, along with the disbandment of 208 Squadron, and will be replaced with more T2 jets.

Last week, it was revealed up to 53 jobs were under threat as a result of the changes, as T2 replacements will not arrive for another year.

Three T1s took off at 13:30 BST on Wednesday.

The flight also marks the end of 40 years of Hawk T1 flying training at RAF Valley

Their flight path took them around the Mach Loop, between Dolgellau, Gwynedd, and Machynlleth, Powys.

Group Captain Brian Braid, station commander RAF Valley, said: "Most of the fast jet pilots in the RAF and the Royal Navy over the last 22 years have graduated from Valley.

"All of these pilots have been trained by 208(R) Squadron, so we look back not only at its links to RAF Valley and the Hawk T1, but over the last 100 years with a great deal of pride."
