Two arrested in Emma Louise Baum 'suspicious' death probe

Two people have been arrested over the suspicious death of a Gwynedd woman, police have said.

The body of Emma Louise Baum, 22, was found at a house on Llwyndu Road, Penygroes, on Monday.

On Tuesday evening, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Police believe Ms Baum, who lived with her two-year-old son, died during the early hours of Monday and appealed for witnesses to a disturbance between 02:00 BST and 05:00.

A neighbour described waking up to "screams" and someone shouting "stop".

The matter was referred to the IPCC after officers were deployed following a call and initially "found nothing suspicious".

Police arrested the man and woman, both from the local area, on Tuesday evening.

Det Supt Iestyn Davies said: "The investigation is ongoing and we are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward."

A post mortem examination is being carried out and the coroner has been informed.

Two men were arrested on Monday - one on suspicion of murder and one on suspicion of assisting an offender - but both were later released without charge.

In a tribute, Ms Baum was described as "a beautiful, loving, caring, devoted mum" by family friend Annie Giles.

She said: "Her little boy was everything to her and she was a great friend who always had a smile on her face and was a happy, bubbly family woman.

"She would brighten up the room with her infectious smile and would make everyone giggle."

Ms Giles said her death had left family and friends "in shock" and "devastated".
