How the promenade looks now - and how it should look when the scheme is completed

Work on phase two of Colwyn Bay's multi-million pound waterfront project will begin in August.

Conwy council said a kilometre of promenade will be "transformed" by coastal defences and environmental improvements.

The £4m Welsh Government-funded project will develop the area between the pier and Cayley embankment.

The first phase, completed in 2013, included a water sport centre and beach.

The council said the scheme will widen and raise a section of the existing promenade and improve parking.

The road will be closed between the pier and junction of Marine Road from 06:00 BST on Thursday, 11 August, with diversions signposted.

There will also be restrictions to beach access while work takes place.

Cllr Dave Cowans, Conwy council's cabinet member for highways, environment and sustainability, said: "I'm pleased that work will soon be underway on the next part of transforming the promenade in Colwyn Bay.

"We realise that closing this section of promenade will cause disruption, but I urge everyone to think of the long term benefits that the project will bring to Colwyn Bay."
