Alun Michael will contest the south Wales police and crime commissioner election

Alun Michael has stood down as the Labour MP for Cardiff South and Penarth to contest the election for south Wales police and crime commissioner.

Elections will be held for the new posts in all four Welsh police force areas on 15 November.

A by-election will be held in Mr Michael's old constituency.
