Minister under investigation 'not considered resigning'

The Circuit of Wales pledges to bring high-performance motorsport racing to the Heads of the Valleys

Welsh Environment Minister Alun Davies has said he has not considered resigning over an investigation into whether he broke government rules.

Mr Davies wrote to the environment watchdog over plans for a race track, near Ebbw Vale, in his constituency.

The investigation, announced on Tuesday, is into whether the letter "conflicted" with his ministerial role.

The Blaenau Gwent AM said he was not doing any interviews on the issue "until after this matter is resolved".

Asked by BBC Wales if he had considered resigning, as he entered the assembly chamber on Wednesday, he replied: "No."

Permanent Secretary, Derek Jones, Wales' most senior civil servant, is conducting the investigation, that was ordered by First Minister Carwyn Jones.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) originally expressed concerns over the £280m Circuit of Wales plans but later said it had been reassured.

Welsh ministers are in favour of the scheme.
