Vale of Glamorgan MP Alun Cairns is to be the new junior minister at the Wales Office.

Previously a back bencher, Mr Cairns takes over the post from Stephen Crabb, who was promoted to Welsh Secretary in the prime minister's cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Cairns was an AM before becoming an MP at the 2010 general election.

He has been a member of the Number 10 policy advisory board since October, but rebelled against ministers in a vote over House of Lords reform.

The changes at the Wales Office formed part of the most extensive cabinet reshuffle since David Cameron entered Downing Street four years ago.
