Stephen Crabb named Welsh Politician of the Year

Stephen Crabb had 'revitalised the political debate in Wales', the judges said

Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb has topped the list of honours at the annual Welsh Political Awards.

The Preseli Pembrokeshire MP was named Welsh Politician of the Year after six months in the Cabinet.

Chair of the judges Dr Denis Balsom said Mr Crabb had "revitalised the political debate in Wales".

Plaid Cymru's Elfyn Llwyd was named Welsh MP of the Year, with Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Kirsty Williams named AM of the year.

The awards, in their tenth year, were organised by the Wales Yearbook Online, external.

The other winners honoured at Cardiff City Hall on Tuesday were:

  • Local Politician of the Year: Newport council leader Bob Bright, for helping host the Nato Summit

  • Campaigner of the Year: Pontypridd Labour AM Mick Antoniw

  • Member to Watch: Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Lord Morgan of Aberdyfi (historian Kenneth O Morgan)
