St Cyres Comprehensive School in Penarth is hit by flooding for the second time in weeks

A Vale of Glamorgan secondary school has been hit by a second flooding problem in a matter of weeks.

A burst pipe at St Cyres School in Penarth means there will be no school on Monday for more than 1,000 pupils.

The school's Dinas Powys site is not affected and is open as normal.

A spokeswoman for the school said after advice from the education director, the Penarth site would be closed on Monday, because the flooding had affected electrics.

At the start of term in September, the same school site was closed to years 7-9 after flooding in a different area due to heavy rain.

The latest incident involved a pipe on the third floor.

Dr Jonathan Hicks, head teacher, said he was sure parents would share his "frustration at this further disruption to the life of the school".

A further announcement will be made on Monday lunchtime.

Parents have also been informed by email and on the school website.

Updates will be posted on the school's Parentmail, external site.
