Flood water on the A487 near Machynlleth on Thursday morning left some vehicles stranded, while at least one driver was prepared to drive through.

Flooding continued to bring disruption to parts of Wales after more heavy rain fell on already saturated ground.

There is currently one flood warning and 8 flood alerts in place throughout Wales and more rain forecast over the weekend.

The A474 at Briton Ferry, Neath Port Talbot and the A487 at Machynlleth, Powys, were closed.

Swansea and London-bound trains experienced severe delays due to flooding at Chipping Sodbury tunnel.

Flood water in the tunnel led to the closure of the line between Bristol Parkway and Swindon, meaning First Great Western, external trains between London Paddington and Swansea are being diverted via Bath Spa.

Those travelling along this route were told to expect short-notice cancellations and delays of up to 30 minutes.

The Environment Agency (EA) , external had a flood warning in place at the River Ritec at Tenby, Pembrokeshire.

The Met Office warned of heavy rain on Saturday in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire and Powys.

The rain is expected to continue into Sunday, with a warning in place for much of Wales.

Flooding led to a stretch of the A487 at Machynlleth being closed in both directions from Machynlleth, by Ysgol Bro Dyfi (Machynlleth Comprehensive School), to Glandyfi.

Localised flooding

The A487 Dyfi Bridge was also closed in both directions due to flooding between Ffordd Mynydd Griffiths and the A493 but has re-opened.

In Neath Port Talbot the A474 was shut in both directions due to flooding between Westbourne Road/ Morgan's Road and Ynysymaerdy Road (Lodge Cross). A diversion is in place via Old Road.

Localised flooding was also affecting the B4265 near Llantwit Major in the Vale of Glamorgan and had led to the closure of the Michaelson level crossing through St Fagans, near Cardiff.

The A4107 Bwlch Mountain Road was closed in both directions earlier due to a landslip between the A4061(Nantymoel) and Scotch Street (Abergwynfi).

The problems have come because the ground is already soaked after December's snow and several days of heavy rainfall.
