Merthyr Tydfil redevelopment plans go on show

An exhibition has opened outlining plans for the next phase of a multi-million pound redevelopment of Merthyr Tydfil town centre.
Officials want the public to decide which of the proposals should take priority and are calling for other ideas to enhance the area.
The plans include improving access to the town centre and revamping public areas, attracting more businesses.
The first phase of the project included better access along the river corridor.
Other developments since the regeneration was announced last November have seen an enhanced café quarter at Lower High Street and improvements along High Street.
'On the map'
Malcolm Browne, chair of the Town and Park Partnership Board, said he was "thrilled about what's happening in Merthyr and how it's been transformed".
"The town has been massively modernised and cleaned up," he said.
The next phase of the £26m regeneration, which is due to be completed by 2015, includes creating a new public square and college green.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and the Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre Partnership are behind the plans.
They are hosting an exhibition at St Tydfil's shopping centre until Saturday, 1 October, 10:00-18:00 BST.
Council leader Jeff Edwards said: "The regeneration programme is a unique opportunity to put Merthyr back on the map, creating a fantastic place to work, live and to visit.
"We are inviting everyone to join the conversation about our town centre."
