Police have named the pedestrian who died after an incident involving a car in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Tara Mackie, 25, a mother-of-one, died after she was struck by a car on Cardiff Road near Dinas Powys about 09:20 BST on Sunday.

Her family said: "She lived life to the full and she doted on her son, who was her world."

The driver of a black Ford Fiesta was arrested and is helping police.

South Wales Police have appealed for witnesses.

Officers say they are keen to speak a cyclist and the occupants of a silver car, possibly an estate, travelling from Barry to Dinas Powys at the time.

Ms Mackie's family said in a statement: "Tara was a wonderful mother, daughter and sister, and everyone's best friend.

"We don't know what we'll do without her; nothing will ever be the same. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her."

South Wales Police is appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or who were travelling along that section of road in either direction at around 9:20 BST on Sunday.

The road was closed for about five hours while officers carried out initial investigations and recovered a vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit at Gwaelod-y-Garth on 01656 655555.
