Close to 150 jobs are at risk after a glass and metal packaging company announced plans to close its factory in Merthyr Tydfil.

The Ardagh Group firm said it was restructuring its UK operations.

Manufacturing of aerosol sprays at the Dragon Parc site at Abercanaid will be transferred to Sutton in Ashfield in Nottinghamshire.

The 146 staff in Merthyr will now take part in statutory consultation on the closure plans.

A spokesperson for the firm said: "The company will do everything we can to support our employees at this difficult time and in the event that job losses do occur, we will review new employment opportunities at our other manufacturing locations."

Printing work would move to Norwich.

The company, which started life in 1932 as the Irish Glass Bottle Company now employs 15,000 people in 25 countries across the world.
