Monmouth: Flooding scheme begins on Wyesham estate

A project is beginning to alleviate flooding on a Monmouthshire estate where 80 homes are at risk.

Culverts will be repaired or replaced on the Wyesham estate in Monmouth during the works.

A new structure and ditches will collect water running off the Kymin and fields above Tudor Road.

Monmouthshire council said people living on the estate have been affected by flooding for many years, most recently last September.

Council cabinet member Bob Greenland said: "I am very pleased and relieved for residents that this work will go ahead.

"It has been very sad to see people's houses and property being flooded and it's wonderful to see this being resolved."

The scheme is to receive £258,000 from the Welsh government and £91,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.

The rest of the funding will be provided by the council.
