Metal thieves steal £4,000 worth of drain lids in Glamorgan

Thieves have stolen 20 lids from drains in the Vale of Glamorgan
Metal thieves have stolen £4,000 worth of drain lids across the Vale of Glamorgan.
Gaping holes have been left in roads in Penarth, Dinas Powys, Sully, Pendoylan, Culverhouse Cross and Wenvoe after 20 lids were taken.
The Vale of Glamorgan council said they all were stolen in less than a week and warned drivers to be vigilant.
Each cast iron lid costs around £200 and South Wales Police is appealing for witnesses to contact them.
The council's highway works manager, Stephen Bowen, said: "The theft of these drainage gully grids causes potential for a serious hazard to road users and pedestrians so we are urging the public to please be careful.
"The holes left in the road by the thieves could cause serious injury if you were to drive into one, or even fall into one of these holes when out walking."
