Cardiff City have revealed details of their celebratory open-top bus parade marking their promotion to the Premier League.

Sunday's parade will start at Cardiff Castle at 17:45 BST and finish in Cardiff Bay after 21:00 with a firework display.

The Bluebirds are back in the top flight of football for the first time in 51 years.

Thousands of fans expected to celebrate are being told to arrive early.

The club released details of the parade on its website., external Cardiff council is also expected to release details of traffic diversions and road closures later

City manager Malky Mackay and the squad will emerge from Cardiff Castle with the Championship trophy between 17:45 BST and 18:15 on Sunday.

Players will then walk to High Street carrying the cup before boarding open-top double deck buses for the remainder of the journey to the bay.

The Bluebirds will then make their way down St Mary Street by bus, passing Mill Lane corner as the team celebrate with fans in the city centre.

The buses will then travel down Callaghan Square and Lloyd George Avenue, heading to Cardiff Bay.

The club said the squad was expected to arrive at the Wales Millennium Centre between 19:00 and 19:45 BST ahead of a reception at the Senedd. It will be hosted by Bluebirds fan and Education Minister Leighton Andrews in his capacity as Rhondda AM.

Supporters should turn at Roald Dahl Plass from 15:00 where opera singer Wynne Evans and live bands will provide entertainment.

Between 20:30 BST and 21:15 the squad will be introduced on stage to supporters at Roald Dahl Plass.

The Football League trophy will then be paraded by members of the Welsh Guards before being presented to Malky Mackay by Cardiff council leader Heather Joyce on the stage.

A firework display over the harbour will round off the celebrations.
