Worker, 26, dies at asbestos school Cwmcarn High

An inquiry has been launched after the death of a worker at a Caerphilly county school where asbestos is being removed over safety fears.

Gwent Police confirmed the man, aged 26, from Abertillery was discovered at Cwmcarn High School on Friday.

The school is due to reopen in September after being shut over safety fears due to the asbestos.

Police say the death is being treated as "unexplained".

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: "HSE can confirm that it is working with Gwent Police on a joint investigation into the death of a 26-year-old worker at Cwmcarn High School on Friday 19 July.

"The police are leading this investigation. It's too early to say at this stage what the cause of the death is, and more will be known after the post-mortem."

The school closed after a council-commissioned report found that asbestos posed a potential health risk.

But a subsequent report from the HSE said asbestos was present, as it was in other public buildings, but it did not present a risk.
