Firefighters have tackled a blaze at the former TJ's music venue in Newport.

Crews from Cwmbran, Duffryn, Maindee and Malpas were called out to the disused three storey building in Clarence Place shortly before 04:00 BST on Sunday.

Twenty four firefighters were involved, including two with breathing apparatus and a hosereel jet.

South Wales Fire and Rescue said it was a small rubbish fire and thought to be deliberate. No-one was hurt.

The venue, rumoured to be where late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain proposed to Courtney Love, operated for almost 40 years before the death of its long term owner John Sicolo in 2010.
