A new appeal to find the killers of a man who died 10 years ago this month is being made by police in Oxfordshire.

Kevin Lavelle was attacked at a pub in Banbury after getting into an argument with several men from Pontypridd in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Mr Lavelle, 29, from Bootle, Merseyside, suffered 50 injuries after being hit with a dumbbell.

Thames Valley Police said allegiances and friendships may have changed with the passage of time.

Mr Lavelle was attacked on the night of an England versus Portugal Euro 2004 match at the Cricketers Pub on 24 June 2004 while working in Banbury.

England will play the last of their group matches in the 2014 World Cup on the anniversary of Mr Lavelle's death.

Up to £30,000 is now on offer to anyone with information about the attack in which Mr Lavelle suffered 50 injuries.

Revisiting inquiry lines

Police have previously said people from the Pontypridd area of Wales who were in the pub at the time Mr Lavelle was killed could be key witnesses.

Principal investigator Pete Beirne said: "It has been ten years since the attack and I believe that as time has passed, allegiances and friendships might have changed.

"Detectives from our Major Crime Review Team have been conducting enquiries in both Banbury and the Pontypridd area of Wales, revisiting lines of enquiry to keep this investigation active, and fresh in people's minds."

"Someone somewhere knows who did this and we will follow every line of enquiry until we find who is responsible."

A trial at Oxford Crown Court in 2006 of a man accused of murdering Mr Lavelle collapsed when a judge said it was impossible to determine who struck the fatal blow.
