Lightning sparks fire at Abercarn bell tower

Lightning over Swansea on Thursday night

Lightning has struck a bell tower in Caerphilly county and caused a small fire.

The blaze at the disused St Luke's Church, Abercarn, broke out shortly before 01:00 BST.

Crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue brought the fire under control by 01:30 BST.

More thunderstorms are expected to hit much of Wales on Saturday leading to warnings of localised flooding.
