Boy, 15, dies after minibus crash at Maesteg Comprehensive School

A teenage boy who died following a crash involving a school minibus has been named as Ashley Daniel Talbot.

The crash happened at 15:05 GMT on Wednesday outside Maesteg Comprehensive School in Bridgend county.

The 15-year-old pupil died at the scene and another boy, 13, suffered minor injuries, South Wales Police said.

A statement from the school read: "Our thoughts are with the family, friends and everyone who has been affected by this tragic accident."

The school's chairman of governors, Keith Edwards, said a member of staff was driving the minibus and was heading for a rugby match when the crash happened.

'Terrible tragedy'

Police, who are working to establish the cause of the incident, have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

The school said it was co-operating fully with the police investigation.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.

MP for Ogmore, Huw Irranca-Davies, said: "This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts tonight are with the family who have lost a loved one.

"In a close community like Maesteg, this will be felt deeply and the whole of the community will want to offer their sincere condolences and support."

South Wales Police officers will be at the school from 07:30 GMT on Thursday to speak to witnesses.
