Cardiff rugby and fireworks travel disruption warning

Train and bus passengers have been warned of possible travel disruption with thousands of rugby fans in Cardiff for the first of the autumn internationals.

City centre roads were closed at 14:30 GMT as Wales took to the field against Australia at the Principality Stadium.

Train services after the game could be especially busy as people travel to fireworks displays in the area.

Arriva Trains Wales said extra capacity would be added to services but it would be very limited.

Customers travelling into Cardiff, especially in stations where services run from Abergavenny, Bridgend and Gloucester, were advised to take the earliest service possible.

The company said Cardiff and valleys line services would also be busy due to firework displays in Cardiff, Barry, Pontypridd and Caerphilly.

Cardiff Queen Street station closed at 16:00.

Cardiff Bus said services would be diverted from the city centre until 20:30 and terminate at alternative bus stops.

Additional diversions will also be in place in Splott, Pengam Green, Tremorfa, Rumney, Trowbridge, Llanrumney, St Mellons, Ely, Butetown and Barry Island from 17:00.

Further disruption is also likely next Saturday when the city hosts Wales v Argentina in rugby at the Principality Stadium at 17:30, and the Wales football team takes on Serbia at Cardiff City Stadium in a World Cup qualifier at 19:45.
