A gas pipe which ruptured following a three-car crash in Caerphilly county has been sealed.

Homes were evacuated following the incident in Fairview, Pengam, at about 08:30 GMT on Thursday.

Three people were taken to hospital for precautionary checks, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

Gas engineers have sealed the leak and people have returned to their homes.

"We found that a road traffic collision had damaged a gas service pipe supplying a home in the area, resulting in a small gas leak," said Wales & West Utilities' Alan Fletcher.

"As a precaution, the emergency services initially closed Fair View Road.

"Our engineers worked to repair the damage and the emergency services have reopened the road."
