A body recovered from a railway line near Bridgend may have been struck by a train, British Transport Police has said.

Officers were called at about 06:25 BST on Thursday and lines between Bridgend and Cardiff Central were blocked.

The incident is being treated as unexplained.

Arriva Trains Wales said there were severe delays on many routes in and out of Cardiff Central earlier but they have now eased.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and found a body which had sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

"Officers will now work to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is currently being treated as unexplained. An investigation is ongoing as to how the person came to be on the tracks."
