Brains Brewery will relocate its headquarters to Cardiff Bay.

It follows plans announced last year to move from the current three million sq ft city centre site which is to be redeveloped.

The new head office in Pacific Business Park will also be home to the brewery and could open by June 2018.

Its existing building and chimney will remain at the redeveloped Central Quay site and would include a pub, microbrewery and visitor centre.

The current Crawshay Street site, next to Cardiff Central station, has been home to SA Brain since the 1990s.

Brains chairman John Rhys said the move to a new home was an "exciting new chapter" in the firm's 135-year history while keeping the old building would help to "showcase" it in the city centre.

A 12-storey office block could be the first big project for Central Quay, which could also include a residential element and restaurants.

Cardiff Metropolitan University is also considering the site for its new school of technology.
