A man who raped a woman and repeatedly punched her in the face at a bus station has been jailed for 14 years.

Ricky Jeremy targeted the victim after finding her asleep at Bridgend bus station during the early hours of 8 September, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The victim had no recollection of the attack but CCTV camera operators raised the alarm and he was arrested nearby.

Jeremy, 23, from Bridgend, pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and actual bodily harm.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said he was also implicated by forensic evidence.

"This was a shocking assault on a defenceless woman witnessed by CCTV operators and captured on their cameras," said Wendy Brady of the CPS.

"Despite the victim having no recollection of what happened to her, prosecutors were able to produce a wealth of forensic and CCTV evidence against Jeremy which left him with no option but to admit the offences."
