Coed Duon home closed during 'inappropriate' texts probe

A children's care home has closed while an investigation is carried out into "inappropriate" WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by staff members.

Coed Duon in Blackwood, Caerphilly county, is likely to remain shut into the new year.

Its two young residents have been moved elsewhere as the home's private owner, Keys Childcare, looks into claims.

Seven members of staff were suspended over the allegations.

Caerphilly council officials met Gwent Police officers, but the force is not involved in the investigation as there were "no relevant alleged offences".

The local authority will also play no part, with the probe being carried out by the home owner.

When the allegations first surfaced, the company said it took "decisive action" to protect the children, suspending staff immediately.

At first, it stayed open following the suspensions with other workers drafted in to cover, but it has now closed.

A spokeswoman for Keys Childcare declined to comment as the investigation continues.
