A Labour councillor in Newport has been suspended after comments he made about the Israel-Gaza crisis.

It has been reported by GB News that Miqdad Al-Nuaimi posted on X about Israeli security policy in Gaza.

The Labour Party is investigating. Mr Al-Nuaimi's account on X, formerly known as Twitter, is no longer available.

Mr Al-Nuaimi has been approached by the BBC, but says he is unable to comment.

He has been a councillor since 2000, and represents Stow Hill on Newport City Council.

Mr Al-Nuaimi has now been administratively suspended from membership of the Labour Party, pending investigation.

This also has the automatic effect of suspending the Labour whip on the council.

The Labour Party says it cannot comment on individual cases because its disciplinary proceedings are confidential.
